WACA Board Deputy Chair Dr Michael Gannon honours mother Pamela by pledging a picket.
After inspiring his life-long love of cricket, WACA Board Deputy Chair Dr Michael Gannon has honoured his mother Pamela through the WA Cricket Foundation’s Pledge a Picket initiative.
Dr Gannon purchased WA, Sheffield Sheild and One Day Team representative Derek Chadwick’s picket in her name.
A member since 1986, Michael shares many fond memories of cricket with his mother.
In recognition of Pamela and the Gannon family’s connection with cricket in Western Australia, Michael has placed Pamela’s name alongside a great of the game, at the home of the sport.
“I remember first coming to the cricket with my mum in the early 1980s. My mum, brother and I used to sit in front of the Inverarity stand”, said Dr Gannon.
“Mum imbued in me a love of cricket and a love of East Perth Football Club. “Chaddy” was an opening batsman for Western Australia, and for many years he was the games recordholder at East Perth Football Club.
“The opportunity to recognise my mum’s love of cricket, of East Perth and this wonderful ground in East Perth seemed like a nice fit.”
Funds raised by pledging a picket are donated to the WA Cricket Foundation, which delivers positive outcomes through cricket including community programs and the WACA Ground Improvement Project (WGIP).
“The WACA Ground is an important part of my life, and I am enjoying seeing the Project progress and having my own little piece of the Ground now,” Dr Gannon said.
“The Project will make this space more accessible to people of different ages and abilities.”
