‘Buy low, sell high’ was front of mind for title-winning bowler Matt Kelly and his teammates as they donned the broker’s headsets at Euroz Hartleys Limited during the company’s annual Commission for a Cause.
Perth Scorchers and WA Domestic champion players teamed up with Head Coach Adam Voges and WA Cricket legends Adam Gilchrist, Michael Hussey and Brad Hogg on the trading floor to support four Perth charities including the WA Cricket Foundation.
The annual event, held on Friday 17 June, saw brokers at WA’s biggest stockbroking firm donate their brokerage fees for an entire day on June 17, with the event raising $400,000 this year alone.
Funds were divided between the WA Cricket Foundation, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, Lifeline WA and the Women and Infants Research Foundation with each charity receiving $100,000.
WA quick Matt Kelly says the donation will make a huge difference.
“Any funding for grassroots cricket and our diversity programs is fantastic,” he said.
“We know how important it is to get people of all backgrounds and abilities playing cricket, so we thank Euroz Hartleys for all the work they’re doing and we’re really proud to be here today.”
The figure is in addition to $870,885, which was raised in aid of West Australian charities during the first three years of the event.
The WA Cricket Foundation will use the funds to continue to grow our programs supporting young women, people with a disability and Aboriginal cricket in a bid to improve social outcomes in WA.
“To know that events like these raise money so more kids can play, and cricket can become a more inclusive sport is really exciting,” said Mathilda Carmichael, WA allrounder and title-winning Perth Scorcher.
“When you see kids from all different backgrounds playing on a Saturday morning it certainly puts a smile on your face,” she said.
Euroz Hartleys’ executive chairman Andrew McKenzie said “Euroz Hartleys has been grateful to be a beneficiary of our growing Western Australian economy over the past 22 years and as WA’s largest and most successful stockbroking and wealth management firm we believe that we have an obligation to give back to our local community.”
