It’s been an action-packed 10 days at the WACA Ground with Manchester United FC calling the venue home for its pre-season tour in Perth.
The open training session on Thursday night proved to be the highlight of their tour in the State.
The highly-anticipated event saw more than eight-thousand Red Devil fans flock to the Ground to witness their soccer heroes get put through their paces.
To top off what has been an incredible opportunity for the WACA Ground, Manchester United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the time to reflect on how much the squad have enjoyed their stay.
“I think I can speak for all my players and colleagues on the Manchester United staff when I say how much we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed our 10 or 11 days here,” he said in a feature column in today’s West Australia.
“The training facilities at the world-famous WACA have been perfect too and the staff members there have been so supportive, doing all they can to make us feel at home and giving us the platform to deliver some top-quality sessions.
“The cricket fans in my backroom team were thrilled to be working there throughout our stay in Perth; they asked me to remind you who won the World Cup in this column, but I won’t do that – I’ll be respectful to our Australian hosts and stick to talking about a sport I know, soccer!
“I’d like to thank everyone in Perth who has welcomed, helped or supported us in any way since our arrival. Your hospitality has been magnificent, and we are all very grateful.”
On their final day at the WACA, Solskjaer could not resist the temptation to test his ability with a bat.
After watching the technically impressive Carrick at the crease, as well as goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez, Ole stepped up and stared down a fast bowl… only to be caught out for a duck!
