Making A World Of Difference In The Cricket Community

The Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) and Western Australian Cricket Foundation (WACF) hosted a morning tea event at the WACA Ground earlier this month to share its vision and talk about the nine key community cricket initiatives being supported through the Foundation.

The special event was attended by WACA CEO Christina Matthews and WACF Board Member Meredith McClements who were joined by members of the WACA Community Cricket team and major donors of the Foundation.

WACA Community Cricket General Manager Jo Davies led a panel discussion with her team who shared some deeply moving stories about the positive impact these cricket programs are having on women and girls, people with a disability and the local Aboriginal community.

Kathy Seed, a donor of the WACF, said it was a very insightful event that gave her a greater understanding about how her support will make a difference in the WA cricket community.

“It was a fantastic event, we got the chance to hear from the people behind the game who each provided insights into how the programs that I am supporting are connecting communities across the State,” she said.

“I love the fact that everyone can play cricket. It is a fun, very inclusive sport which anyone can play, you don’t have to be the best.

“I think the community initiatives the WACA is running, especially in the country regions, are fantastic.

“I lived in Kalgoorlie for more than 15 years and worked in remotes places and I think it’s really good to support regional communities – sport plays such an important part in building community connection.”
