“Kids deserve an equal opportunity to play cricket, no matter where they live,” Mid West WA Cricket Manager Jay O’Brien.
Jay’s right – and it’s not just cricket.
Equal opportunity is at the heart of the WA Cricket Foundation’s commitment to Aboriginal communities, as we work to forge new social connections and inspire future leaders thanks to our generous donors.
“To see us and just know that we’re here to help, that’s the invaluable link between sport and actually having a positive impact within these communities,” Jay said.
Recently Foundation and WA Cricket staff put their feet in the red dirt, visiting and connecting with remote communities across the Murchison region including Yulga Jinna, Karalundi, Meekatharra and Wiluna.
“It’s really good for relationship building, to know that we care, and we’re invested in their communities,” Jay said.
Over the past 12 months the WA Cricket Foundation has doubled the number of Aboriginal cricketers in our programs which include the school leadership initiative, Deadly Cricket and the Kambarang Youth Carnival.
