East Fremantle and Claremont made history this evening as they played in the first ever WAFLW game at the WACA Ground.
The Sharks have been calling the WACA Ground their home away from home since 2022, but tonight was the first time their women’s team hosted a match at the iconic venue.
The game was played under lights and was made possible thanks to the ground lengthening that took place as part of the WACA Ground Improvement Project.
WA Cricket CEO Christina Matthews was thrilled to have the WAFLW competition come to the WACA Ground.
“We are passionate about supporting women in sport, so we are very excited to be able to host WAFLW games here for the first time,” Matthews said.
Three more WAFLW games will be played at the WACA Ground this season with two of those under lights.
The next WAFLW fixture sees East Fremantle host Subiaco on Saturday May 13 from 2pm alongside three WAFL matches between the two sides.
WA Cricket and East Fremantle members can gain free entry to WAFL and WAFLW matches played at the WACA Ground with their current membership cards.
