East Fremantle to play two final games at the WACA Ground

East Fremantle return to the WACA Ground for two final matches as their League and Colts sides look to cement their place in the finals.

They take on Claremont on Saturday August 5, before coming back the next week against East Perth.

With only four home and away rounds remaining, the Sharks are sitting second on the ladder and are almost guaranteed to play finals, but it is a tough run home with three of their next four opponents also in the top five.

Their Colts side are also looking at a likely finals berth and are currently sitting four games clear of fifth placed West Perth.

The Colts kick things off on August 5 against Claremont at 9:40am, followed by the Reserves at 12:10pm, and the League side at 2:40pm.

The following week against the Royals, the Colts start at 9:10am, with the Reserves at 11:40am, and the League side at 2:10pm.

WAFL was able to return to the WACA Ground following lengthening works that took place as part of the WACA Ground Improvement Project, and East Fremantle have used the iconic Ground as their home base for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The Round 18 match brings the two-year agreement with East Fremantle and the WAFL to a close, and WA Cricket CEO Christina Matthews said it had been fantastic having football back at the WACA Ground.

“We spent many years unable to host football at the Ground, so we were thrilled to come to an agreement with East Fremantle that would see them play their home fixtures here across two years,” Matthews said.

“Although the WACA Ground is primarily known as a top-tier cricket venue, the WACA Ground Improvement Project is allowing us to transform it into a multi-purpose venue that can be used for multiple sports across the entire year, and we have already been able to showcase that with the likes of East Fremantle, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur all utilising the Ground for different purposes.

“We look forward to welcoming more teams and codes to the WACA Ground over the coming years.”
