The Boundary Room at the WACA Ground was abuzz with enthusiasm and promise this month, for the WA Cricket Foundation’s biannual Morning Tea.
Donors and friends mingled with the title-winning Perth Scorchers, WA state players, and staff and participants from the Foundation’s inclusion and diversity programs to celebrate and reflect on a successful six months.
Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner was one of the main attractions, drawing a lengthy line of guests posing for a photo with the KFC BBL|12 trophy.
WA Cricket Foundation Board Member Meredith McClements provided an opening address, giving an insight into why she chooses to donate to the Foundation.
“The WA Cricket Foundation is so much more than just cricket,” she said.
“This is the conduit we have created as our totem to extend to kids to bring them into community.
“In a world where the cost of living is skyrocketing with every interest rate rise, community sport costs like fees, uniform, travel, and equipment can pose a major barrier.
“Together, we can help clear that hurdle. Making sport available is one thing, making it accessible is quite another, and that is where the WA Cricket Foundation steps in.”

A group of donors also featured on the event panel hosted by Australian cricket legend and Foundation Board Member Michael Hussey.
Chris Ungar and Ann Jones spoke about their personal philanthropic experience, while Executive Chairman of Euroz Hartleys Group Limited Andrew McKenzie gave an insight into the real-world impact staff have seen as a result of their generosity.
Inclusion cricket stalwart Boyd Duffield was honoured during the proceedings, after announcing his retirement from international duties.
One of WA’s most experienced cricketers with an intellectual disability, Duffield represented Australia an impressive 15 times.

The WA Cricket Foundation was established to make a difference in our community through the game of cricket.
We thank our generous donors for allowing us to continue that mission.
