Brider named Player of the Tournament in National Inclusion Cricket Championships

The Cricket Australia National Inclusion Cricket Championships were played in Brisbane last month with several Western Australians rewarded for their strong showings throughout the tournament.

Decorated Western Australian Blind Cricketer Bradley Brider was named as the Player of the Tournament in the Blind Division.

Brider was in outstanding form during the Championships, tallying 329 runs at an average of 109.67. He was instrumental in leading his team to the Grand Final, registering two fifties and a century during his five innings, to finish as the division’s top run-scorer.

Brider produced one of the innings of the Championships against South Australia, striking 107 off 58 to power WA to 3-208 off their 20 overs and a narrow six-run win.

The 24-year-old also produced scores of 96 and 90 during victories against Victoria and Tasmania respectively.

David Martin also had an outstanding tournament, finishing with the most dismissals in the B1 Blind Division whilst Fellow Blind Cricketer Alan Leahy also finished his Championships with the most dismissals, in the B2 Division.

WA had some fantastic results throughout the carnival, with the Blind Team making it all the way through to the Grand Final, before losing to eventual champions New South Wales.

The Hard of Hearing Team were highly competitive throughout their five matches, finishing with two wins and three losses. Veteran David Melling was a standout, striking 149 runs and six wickets. He struck a career-best 84 not out off 60 balls in WA’s 14-run win over Victoria.

WA Intellectual Disability Cricket stalwart Boyd Duffield, who announced his retirement from international Inclusion Cricket during the tournament, had another productive Championships, finishing with 115 runs and four wickets.

The ID Team won one of their five matches, with the victory coming against New South Wales. Bowler Sean McGowan produced the highlight of the week, taking the remarkable figures of 5-2 off 3 overs.
