Over $14,000 was raised for the WA Cricket Foundation in the recent Perth Scorchers auction, with 11 lucky bidders securing a piece of Scorchers history.
Fans had the opportunity to bid for the signed match-worn shirts from the last KFC Big Bash League match at the iconic WACA Ground on Thursday 25 January 2018, with all funds raised going to the WA Cricket Foundation.
A boost to the auction’s fundraising efforts, Mitchell Johnson’s signed match-worn shirt was sold for $2,100 – almost double that of the others on offer.
WACA CEO Ms Christina Matthews said it was extremely pleasing to see such a strong response to the first fundraising initiative of the Foundation.
“The funds raised through the auction will go towards the WACA Ground development, which is fitting as we farewell BBL from the Ground and prepare for an exciting new future,” Ms Matthews said.
“The WACA Ground holds a special place in the heart of many Western Australians and we are committed to ensuring a strong and sustainable future for both the Ground and cricket in this state.”
The WA Cricket Foundation is the philanthropy arm of the WACA, which was established to develop all levels of cricket in WA and ensure a long and successful future for the WACA Ground.
