Aboriginal Leadership Recognition

The WA Cricket Foundation is proud to announce Adam Cockie’s acceptance into Leadership WA’s Rising Leadership Program.

Currently working at WA Cricket as the Aboriginal Project Officer, Adam works through metro, regional and remote communities of Western Australia.

The six-month leadership program will commence in March, giving a select group of mid-level professionals the opportunity to explore who they are as leaders, build on their strengths, and discover how to take on greater leadership roles.

“I’m excited to explore new leadership methods and be given the opportunity to pass these skills on through my work with the WA Cricket Foundation,” Adam said.

To assist Adam’s participation in the program he was also selected as a recipient of a Regional Aboriginal Leadership Development Scholarship, which enable recipients to reinvest back into their local communities.

Adam is a Whadjuk Noongar Man who grew up in Perth’s northern suburbs. In his career, his passion is Aboriginal participation and engagement.

“It’s important to continuously find new ways to engage with Aboriginal people and include them in the world of cricket,” he believes.

Before WA Cricket, Adam was at the WA Football Commission working as a Diversity Community Officer with multicultural and Aboriginal communities engaging and building football.

He has a long history as a football player and spent time playing for the West Coast Eagles in 2009-10.

“Sport is an amazing vehicle for social change and an area I’ve always been involved in,” Adam said.

“This program will give me new opportunities to expand my leadership skills while learning from and working alongside people from other organisations.”
