A Morning of Gratitude

Donors, supporters, staff and WA Cricket Foundation program participants came together at the iconic WACA Ground for a morning of inspiring stories.

Guests were treated to a delicious menu curated by WACA Ground Head Chef David Winnett, enjoyed in the Boundary Room overlooking the historic ground.

WA Cricket Head of Philanthropy Carolyn Turner and WA Cricket Foundation Chair John Gardner spoke to the room about the everlasting mission at the forefront of the Foundation, which is creating safe spaces for our state’s most vulnerable to enjoy community and connection.

The morning’s formalities also included a guest panel which included WA Cricket Player Bhavi Devchand, Integrated Cricket League dad and coach Michael French and Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC CEO Cate Ballentyne.

The panel participants each told of their unique stories when it came to the work the Foundation does, and how those close to them have benefited from the donor funded programs

One such narrative was the compelling story of Luke French. His dad, Michael told the room that conventional cricket didn’t work for his family and for his son, who thought he wouldn’t be able to play to sport he loved after it didn’t feel right for him.

After a break from the traditional format of cricket, Michael and Luke found ICL, a modified game of cricket which allows people of all abilities to play at their own pace.

Michael spoke about his belief that ICL changed his family’s life, with the modified game allowing his son to be active and connect with his local community.

The Foundation is proud to be able to host celebrations which highlight the impact of the incredible generosity of our donors.
