Tottenham call the WACA Ground home

The WACA Ground was once again in focus on the international stage as Tottenham Hotspur used the iconic Ground as their training base during their visit to Perth.

The Spurs used the WACA Ground from July 16 – 21 as part of their pre-season Asia-Pacific Tour and opened a training session to fans on July 17.

Eager fans lined the East Perth streets hours before gates opened at 4:30pm, as over 4000 filled into the stands to see Ange Postecoglou’s side in action.

The pre-season trip included a friendly against Premier League opposition West Ham United at Optus Stadium on July 18 which was attended by a crowd of over 45,000.

Acting WA Cricket CEO Justin Michael said the WACA Ground was quickly becoming a Premier League pre-season venue of choice.

“We are thrilled that Tottenham called the WACA Ground home during their time in Perth which put our Ground on the world stage once more,” Michael said.

“We saw some of the players and coaches immersing themselves in a bit of cricket while they were here, and it was wonderful to be able to host them during their time in Western Australia.

“After hosting Manchester United previously, and now Tottenham, we look forward to welcoming more clubs to our iconic Ground in the coming years.

“Our ability to host such diverse and high-level sporting events demonstrates the importance of the work we are undertaking with the WACA Ground Improvement Project which will transform the WACA Ground into a multi-purpose venue that can be utilised year-round.”
