Connecting Communities

Kambarang Youth Carnival participants

A 2,800-kilometre drive is a long way for a game of cricket. But it’s a small price to pay for connections that last a lifetime.

In late October, the inaugural Kambarang Youth Carnival brought together Indigenous youth from Halls Creek down to Bunbury to play cricket, learn new skills, enjoy each other’s company and most importantly – have fun!

“There’s a lot of kids that play cricket. To see other kids that are Aboriginal and playing the game that our guys grew up to love in Northam just shows that there’s other people and cultures joining in” – Jermaine “Bomber” Davis, Ballardong Cricket Academy.

Over the two days, teams came together on Whadjuk land to play cricket in a safe and happy environment. The unique cultural experience is now set to become an exciting annual event presented by the WA Cricket Foundation, as it aims to build richer and more inclusive communities through sport.

The Foundation is committed to connecting communities through cricket, creating equal opportunity for every West Australian to benefit from the game we all love.
